XXL Magazine #7 1998 : The Greatest Day In Hip Hop History Cover
First off, give me props for scanning and splicing four pages together using a generic “photoshop” type program. This is one of the key issues in the XXL catalogue as it is unbelievable to imagine getting this many iconic artists all in one spot without someone being shot. I’m not gonna run down the names of all the artists, but some of my favorite are: Rakim, E-40, Kurupt, Wu-Tang, Scarface, MC Eiht, Black Moon, D Nice, Jayo Felony, Tela, MC Shan, Hieroglyphics, Saafir, Cocoa Brovaz, Kool Moe Dee, Richie Rich, The Lox, and Big L. Besides the photo, there is also a whole lot of stuff going on inside. Xzibit hanging with Saafir and Kam, Eye Candy was Gangsta Boo, Rising stars – Talib Kweli and Mos Def / Memphis Bleek / and Mr. Vegas. This issue was a year in review issue, so it had lots of info and tons of photos. Just about every advertisement actually had a rapper donning the cloths in the pic.
