HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #4 : De La Soul Cover

Classic cover with De La Soul, Red Alert, and Wee Papa Girls. You know your reading something classic when they have a Hip-Hop Slang section. Chillin’ Out – Relaxing, Biter – Someone who takes ideas from other and is unable to invest in those of his own, Posse – Group of Homeboys or Homegirls. Nice center two page Run DMC poster.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #47 : Ice Cube Cover

Perfect cover because it not only has Cube, but Da Lench Mob in the corner. Funny, Daryll Gates asks Eazy-E on the Howard Stern show “What if we went around making songs saying ‘Kill The Blacks’?” Also article on “Is Gangsta Rap Dead?” *note* Ice Cube is on the cover.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #3 : Fab 5 Freddy Cover

Can a cover be ugly and beautiful at the same time? The early layout on these issues is ugly but you got to love the people featured and the vintage year being covered. Fab 5 Freddy, Krs-One, and Ice-T. MC Duke was wearing LV clothing back in the day. Good article on the DMC West Coast DJ finals, and a must read article on Fab 5 Fredddy.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #60 : Ice Cube Cover

Good cover of Ice Cube with his ‘fro. Not much inside but a advertisement for the Fugees album Blunted On Reality and a center two page poster of an early Dr. Dre and Snoop picture.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #57 : Snoop Doggy Dogg Cover

Nice cover of a young Snoop right before the drop of his classic Doggystyle album, early predictions are that it will go platinum. With the change from ’89 being all political to ’93 being the year of hardcore, HHC list the top 5 “Nastee Niggaz” 1. Onyx 2.Busta Rhymes 3.Hoodratz 4.Cutthroats 5.Illegal.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #51 : Eazy-E Cover

One of those covers with a gun, but a bit eerie with Eazy in a straight jacket. The more I look at this cover, the more I realize that HHC used this same photo but a close up in a later issue when he died. I could be wrong, have to check my stash. Article with Eazy is during the time period when he was feuding with Dre and was getting ready to release his album “Temporary Insanity”.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #35 : MC Ren Cover

MC Ren on the cover of a magazine is pretty rare by himself. UK version of Ice Cube’s Death Certificate is 2 tracks less without Black Korea and No Vaseline. Right in the middle of Cube going solo and Dre starting to show signs of leaving, there is a lot of insight in this issue regarding N.W.A. members.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #40 : Pete Rock & CL Smooth Cover

Nice cover of two iconic hip hop artists. Interesting read on N.W.A. and their never released movie “Smilin’ Faces”. Nice two page A Tribe Called Quest photo.

HHC Hip Hop Connection Magazine #43 : Eric B Rakim Cover

Man, Eric B looks stiff as hell in this photo. Luckily it has Rakim in it. K-Solo goes into a freestyle in the middle of his article…” Off the top of the grill/Grill, rhymes are chill/Niggas you know the real deal/’Cos Solo hits hard, my hands are always on the steel.

Hip Hop Connection Magazine #110 : Gang Starr Cover

Filled with artists Common, OC, Schooly D. Entertaining article on “What Makes An Emcee Great?”. Ten greatest MC’s of all time: 5)2pac 4)Ice Cube 3)Chuck D 2)KRS-One 1) Log in and leave a comment on your guess (remember it’s 1998), then i’ll give the answer.

Hip Hop Connection Magazine #223 : Public Enemy Cover

Another one of my favorites. As the title says “The inside story of Hip-Hop’s greatest Album” which in my opinion was one of the greatest. It takes a nation of millions to hold us back was one of those albums that solidified my love for rap. I also reminds me of the prison video for “Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos” where my favorite line is spoken by Chuck D, “I got a letter from the government the other day, I opened and read it, it said they were sucka’s” Haha, still love that line. Issue also features a picture of some rap cat named Illamadi rocking a gold chain with a Super Mario pendant made of Legos?? Also has a cool LRG clothing advertisement on the back inside cover with B.O.B. stating his album (The Adventures…) coming Summer of 2008, missed the projected mark a bit.

Hip Hop Connection HHC Magazine #103 September 1997 : Puff Daddy Cover

September 1997, not sure if rap knew where to go from here. Not a good selection of artists interviews, and of course you put Puffy on the cover. Most of the articles pertained to the killing of Biggie and Pac. Like my mom used to say, it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
