Source Magazine #78 Tupac Shakur Cover

Source Magazine TupacOne of my favorite Tupac covers. First thing I notice is an ad for Aura Bass Shaker speakers, you put them under your car seat so you can feel the bass. And 1 and Karl Kani plaster this issue. At this point in 95 you had a common theme in the state of hip hop: “The Hip-Hop Nation has essentially given up all political power, social consciousness, and knowledge of self. We prefer to fantasize about owning mansions and yachts and obtaining them through the exploitation of other people.” The Fugees prepare to release the Score, and Jay-Z and Rocafella promoting Reasonable Doubt. Article on up and comer D’Angelo who eventually “went butt ass naked for his record to sell”. Very entertaining article on Tupac right after he had been released on bail from jail after doing 11 months. Article title is : Death Wish

The Urban Network Magazine – 2Pac Cover

This is one of my favorite covers, simple, peaceful, 2pac. Not much inside as expected for this magazine except for a photo of A Tribe Called Quest in the studio finishing up Beats, Rhymes, and Life.

Vibe Magazine May 2005 : Tupac Biggie Jam Master J Cover

Not sure what I think of this cover. It is a remake of a 1968 Esquire cover. I am trying to figure out if they purposely recreated the edges to really look like bad technology from the 60’s or just bad photoshopping. How come every high end clothing ad has to feature a white chick posing like she just took a shot of heroine? Top 4 Dynasties at the time: Bad Boy, G-Unit/Shady/Aftermath, Roc-A-Fella, Ruff Ryders. Section on the deaths of our fallen stars. Convincing arguments on Orlando Anderson being the shooter of Pac.

Yo! Magazine #49 : Tupac Cover

This issue is in one of my favorite 2 year span of hip hop. Nothing but great stories and rappers from coast to coast within. Tribute to Eazy-E. Color photos of both rappers mentioned inside. I found the original receipt inside the magazine and I got to say well…. here’s the list of items from North Teutonia Avenue Pick N Save: Fresh-Yo Magazine, Koolaid – Lemonade, Miller Draft 12PK bottles, Diapers, Pork Chops 1/4 Loin. Now that’s a good Sunday afternoon!

Sister 2 Sister Magazine Vol.10 No.9 : Snoop Dogg Cover

Snoop Dogg in his god awful No Limit days on the cover. Interesting note on BET making Pac’s Do For Love video go back and get edited by painting panties on the cartoon chick. Snoop interview talks about Death Row.

The Source Magazine #60 : 2Pac Cover

Very hard not to like a cover that has either Biggie or Pac on the cover. The article is a must read and very telling of what was to come. Organized Konfusion gets a well deserved 4 mics for Stress: The Extinction Agenda. Good to see Jeru The Damaja get an article.

Hip Hop Quotable : Jeru The Damaja – Mental Stamina

Unsigned Hype: None present (or mine is missing)

Word Up! Magazine 1997 : Notorious B.I.G. Cover

A Word Up special tribute to Biggie. Huge amount of Biggie and anyone associated with him such as Tupac, Diddy, Junior Mafia. Funny that they put the two center photos next to each other are Faith and Lil Kim.
